How many gin and tonics a bottle makes

Each gin and tonic holds whatever gin went into it. With a 25 ml single, a 70 cl bottle of 40% gin makes 28.0 drinks of 1 unit each; with a 50 ml pour it makes half as many, at 2 units each.

Measured the US way, a 1.5 fl oz shot of 40% gin is one standard drink, and a 750 ml bottle holds 16.9 of them.

Gin strengths on the label

The strength is printed as ABV or % vol. At 37.5%, a 70 cl bottle holds 26.3 UK units; at 47% it holds 32.9. That is 14.8 against 18.5 US standard drinks for the same size of bottle.

Gin against the UK's 14 units

The UK Chief Medical Officers advise a maximum of 14 units a week for both women and men, preferably spread over three or more days. At 40%, 14 units of gin is 350 ml: exactly half a 70 cl bottle.
