Self-help information, not medical care

DrinkFewer publishes general information and simple tools for people who want to drink less or take a break from alcohol. Our pages are not written or reviewed by doctors, and we don't describe them as medically reviewed. Nothing here diagnoses a condition or replaces advice from a doctor.

Where our information comes from

  • Studies, systematic reviews and trials, linked through PubMed or the publisher.
  • Official health bodies such as NIAAA, the CDC, the NHS and national alcohol guidelines.

We don't cite health blogs, brand sites or treatment-centre marketing. When a number comes from our own arithmetic, for example units in a bottle of wine, the page says so and shows the formula.

How we check pages before they go live

  • Articles: a team member checks every claim against the source it cites. Until that check is done the page is marked as a draft and hidden from search engines. Checked pages show the date and the name of the person who checked them.
  • Automated checks: our tests fail if a page cites a source we have not registered and opened, links to a page that does not exist, targets the same search question as another page, or uses wording we have ruled out, such as promises of a cure or stigmatising labels.
  • AI assistance: drafts of text and code may be prepared with AI assistance. A draft is not published until a team member has checked it against the sources.

Safety

Stopping drinking suddenly can be dangerous for people who are dependent on alcohol. Every guide and tool links to free helplines and says when to talk to a doctor first. We don't publish detox plans, blood-alcohol calculators or advice on medicines.
